Why are the systems different?
The Western numeric system groups numbers by thousands (three zeros). E.g., Thousand, Million, Billion, Trillion. The commas are also placed after every three digits: 1,000,000.
The Indian numeral system, traditionally used in the Indian subcontinent, groups numbers by thousands for the first grouping, but then by hundreds (two zeros) thereafter. E.g., Hazar, Lakh, Crore. The commas reflect this: 10,00,000.
