Best Practices for Writing a Cheque

  • Cross the Cheque: To ensure the money only goes into a bank account (and cannot be cashed over the counter), draw two parallel lines on the top left corner and optionally write "A/C Payee Only".
  • Add "Only" at the end: Always write "Only" (or "/-" after the numbers) to prevent anyone from adding extra zeros or words to the amount. E.g., `Five Thousand Only`.
  • Strike through empty space: If there is blank space left on the "Rupees" or "Pay" lines, draw a line through it so no one can add text.
  • Consistent Signature: Ensure your signature exactly matches the one held in bank records.
